Ironstone Medical Clinic & Urgent Care performs overnight in-lab sleep studies at our sleep lab, 4121 Brockton Avenue, Suite 104, Riverside, CA 92501. Our studies help evaluate sleep apnea and other sleep-related breathing problems.

Signs You May Need a Sleep Study

  • Loud, frequent snoring
  • Pauses in breathing, choking or gasping during sleep
  • Daytime sleepiness
  • Morning headaches

If you notice these signs, talk with your doctor. A sleep study requires an order from your physician.

Our Sleep Studies

All three of our sleep studies require an order from a referring physician. Patients cannot schedule a sleep study without one.

  • Diagnostic polysomnography (PSG). An overnight sleep study in our lab. Sensors record breathing, oxygen levels, heart rhythm and sleep stages to evaluate sleep apnea and other sleep-related breathing problems.
  • CPAP titration. An overnight study in our lab to find the CPAP pressure setting that keeps your airway open while you sleep.
  • Split-night study (PSG and CPAP titration). Available only when ordered by your referring physician and clinically appropriate. Our sleep lab reviews each order to decide whether a split-night study is feasible, so not every patient is eligible. When it is, one overnight study starts as a diagnostic PSG and, if obstructive sleep apnea is established, switches to CPAP titration for the rest of the night. Sometimes the diagnostic portion does not leave enough time to establish obstructive sleep apnea and complete adequate CPAP titration; in those cases a separate CPAP titration night may be needed.

If you have used CPAP before and your physician has ordered repeat testing, we will review the order and your prior history to decide which study is appropriate.

What to Expect

Our sleep lab operates seven nights a week. Patients generally arrive around 8:30 p.m., with lights-out at approximately 10:00 p.m. Overnight studies generally allow at least six hours between lights-out and lights-on. If your study is completed earlier in the morning, you may leave at that time if you wish. Otherwise, you may continue sleeping until approximately 5:30 a.m., when our staff will wake you. Our sleep lab staff will confirm your arrival time and explain the overnight schedule when your study is booked.

Our sleep lab staff will provide preparation instructions when your study is scheduled.

After Your Study

When your study report is complete, we mail it to your referring physician, who will review the results and discuss next steps with you. If your physician requests the report by email, we send it only through an approved secure method, following our HIPAA procedures. You may also request a copy of your report from our clinic.

Insurance and Additional Agreements

Our sleep lab accepts the same insurance plans and medical groups as our urgent care clinic, except Kaiser Permanente. See Insurances We Accept. Before your study, please confirm your specific plan, your assigned medical group, and whether prior authorization is needed.

Additional agreement: U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Ironstone Medical Clinic has an agreement with the VA. This is an agreement, not an insurance plan. For veterans, the physician submits the sleep study requisition through the VA, and the appropriate VA department sends the referral and required documentation to our sleep lab.
