Not sure where to go when you or a family member feels sick or gets hurt? This guide explains when to visit a walk-in urgent care clinic, when to see your primary care doctor and when to go to the emergency room. For the full list of conditions we treat, see our walk-in urgent care and family medicine page.

When to Choose Urgent Care

Urgent care is for illnesses and injuries that need attention today but are not life-threatening. At Ironstone Medical Clinic, you can walk in without an appointment for problems such as:

  • Cold and flu, fever, earaches and sinus infections
  • Vomiting and diarrhea
  • Headaches
  • Minor cuts and burns
  • Sprains and strains
  • Allergies, insect bites and rashes
  • Back pain and general pain
  • Work injuries and auto accident injuries

When to See Your Primary Care Doctor

Primary care is best for ongoing health needs and prevention. Our family medicine providers offer:

  • Adult physical exams
  • Women’s health
  • Geriatric care
  • Preventive health and vaccinations
  • Chronic disease management

After an urgent care visit, follow up with your primary care physician so your ongoing care stays coordinated.

When to Go to the Emergency Room

Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room for chest pain, trouble breathing, signs of a stroke (face drooping, arm weakness or trouble speaking), severe bleeding, a serious head injury, loss of consciousness or any other life-threatening symptoms.
